Hopefully it hasn’t escaped your notice that we are in the midst of AfC appraisal season! Please be proactive and book your appraisals into your diaries. You should prepare for your appraisal by undertaking a reflection of your Leeds Way respectful behaviours and completing this section on your appraisal before your meeting. Other ways you can ‘own’ your appraisal include:

  • Reviewing your past objectives and adding some comments about your progress.
  • Crafting some new work priorities for the coming 12 months that you think are important for discussion with your manager.
  • Giving consideration to your personal development plan and creating some actions for discussion.
  • Updating any expired or expiring mandatory training.

By owning your appraisal rather than waiting for your manager to conduct it, you are assuring yourself of a much more valuable conversation and are likely to shape your next 12 months of work in a way which is much more engaging for yourself!
